Our Purpose

Our purpose is to hold to the promise that the constitution provides in that all of us are created equal and that the United States is based upon the ideal that all people have an equal opportunity in their pursuit of happiness and individual freedom. To that end we will work to support Democrat candidates and for legislation which enhances every individual’s freedom and ability to be a viable member of our society.

Monthly Meetings

The Jefferson County Democrats meet at 6:30 PM on the Third Wednesday of each month, usually at the Jefferson County Library Annex, Madras.

What Can You Do?

Register and Vote: This is the most important thing any of us can do. If you have questions about how to do this we will be glad to help.
Be Involved: If the values of the Democratic Party make sense to you, please join us as a part of the Jefferson County Democratic Committee. We meet once a month. You can be as involved as desired; serving on a committee, be a precinct person, or just attend and stay informed while sharing your ideas.

Why Are We Democrats?

Democrats are every day people who know they can have a voice in the government of this country by joining together. The Democratic Party is concerned about working people, children, seniors, and the disadvantaged.

EDUCATION: A well educated work force is critical to the economic health of our communities, our state and the nation. As Democrats we work for:
- Full funding for Head Start
- Quality Public Education
- College, which is affordable to all who desire
WISE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Growth should be handled carefully. As Democrats we work for development that:
- Provides stable living wage jobs
- Is friendly to the environment
- Benefits the whole community
- Encourages US business at home
PROTECTION OF INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS: As Democrats, we believe that:
- All Citizens have the right to be heard
- Laws should protect everyone
- No part of government should get so strong that it over-rides others.
RESPONSIBLE WORLD CITIZENSHIP: Because we live in a country with great economic and military power, it is important that we use that power wisely. As Democrats we work to see that:
- Autonomy of other nations is respected
- The US is a good economic neighbor
- Human Rights are respected

We are the Party to reinvigorate democracy. Society works best when people believe in a common purpose and create a trust in government to achieve common goals. Whether it’s promoting campaign finance reform, preserving our environment for future generations, encouraging and promoting wise economic development that provides a living wage, or expanding the educational opportunities for our children, we are committed to finding the solutions to these complex problems while providing relief for our working families.
